ESP TRAINER tp

This is a free online ESP Trainer. ESP Trainer allows you to conduct trials of two-person telepathy with a friend. It can also be used for solo clairvoyance (no human sender).

Instructions

The ESP "targets" used for these tests are selected from a pool of 400 FULL COLOUR PHOTOGRAPHS. All photographs are suitable for viewing by a general audience and none are likely to cause upset or offence.

Choosing a Procedure

When you start, you will be asked to choose a procedure. The choices are:

If using the "Distant" procedure, both Sender and Receiver must be able to communicate by phone, email, MSN Messenger Service, or Netscape Instant Messenger. The most convenient method is to use one of the instant messenger services. Both persons must also be viewing ESP Trainer on their respective computers. The URL for this is:

http://www.mdani.demon.co.uk/para/rvexp2.htm

Sending and Receiving

After confirming the procedure, you will be asked to choose a time period for "sending". Select 1, 5, 10, 15 or 20 mins. If you are the distant Receiver, you do not need to make a selection (agree this beforehand with the Sender).

When you are ready, the computer will randomly select and display on the Sender's screen one of the 400 photographs. Expect a short delay at the start of transmission, while the photo is loaded. The Sender must let the Receiver know when transmission begins (an alternative is to agree beforehand on an exact start time).

The Sender views the target photograph for the chosen time period (the computer will let the Sender know when time is up). If using the "Send and Receive" procedure, the Receiver should be in another room throughout this period.

The Sender may wish to draw or write down things during the transmission period. As long as there is no possibility of being overheard, the Sender may also talk about the picture during transmission.

During transmission, the Receiver should attempt to pick up any impressions about the target photograph. Generally the Receiver should be relaxed and should allow impressions and images to come into the mind without "thinking" too much. He or she may wish to make notes or drawings during this period. An alternative procedure is for the Receiver to sit comfortably with eyes closed and to speak any impressions out loud, which can be recorded by a third person, or using a tape recorder. The Receiver may also wish to make other notes following completion of the transmission period.

Note: If you are using the "Solo Clairvoyance" procedure, the photo screen will remain blank as you are timed for the chosen period.

Scoring

When time is up, the computer will display on the screen FOUR possible photographs (in random positions), one of which is the actual target.

If the Receiver is in an adjacent room, he or she may now be called in to view the four photographs. The Receiver should compare EACH photograph with the impressions formed, before giving a score to ALL FOUR photographs in terms of how closely each picture matches the impressions formed. Finally the Receiver should select ONE photograph as the most likely actual target. The Sender and Receiver should not come into contact with each other at this time, nor communicate in any way until the scoring is completed (to avoid clues being given).

If using the "Distant" procedure, the computer will generate a six-figure Key Number on the Sender's screen at the end of transmission. This number (but NO OTHER INFORMATION) should be sent to the Receiver by phone, email or using an instant message. When the Receiver enters this number into ESP Trainer, the same FOUR possible target photographs will be shown on the Receiver's screen. This Key Number does NOT indicate the actual target, merely the four possible targets. As with the non-distant procedure, the Receiver gives a score to each photograph before making a final selection. The computer then generates a new five-figure Key (1 number + four letters) on the Receiver's screen. This 2nd Key should then be sent to the Sender. When the Sender enters this 2nd Key, the full trial results are shown. The computer will also automatically generate the 13-digit Trial Key so that the results can be saved and sent back to the Receiver. To view the results, the Receiver should enter this Trial Key by clicking "Reset," then selecting "Load (Saved Trial)" from the "Choose Procedure" menu.

If using the "Solo Clairvoyance" or "Send and Receive" procedures, the computer will reveal the target photograph when scoring is completed.

Testing for Significance

In order to test for statistical significance, you will need to carry out several trials. A simple test for significance is based on examining the number of hits (correct guesses) obtained. You can analyse your results in this way using Psi Test Significance Calculator. This calculator requires at least 40 trials (these can be one person's results or the combined results of several people, provided that only one person is tested on each occasion). There are more complicated ways of analysing results with fewer trials, but you will probably need expert advice on these.
