He died on 25 Oct 1914 in Reutel, Ypres, Flanders. Sidney was employed as Nurse at Lavington Asylum, Wiltshire in 1913. He was employed as Lance Corporal, No. 7179, Duke of Edinburgh's Wiltshire Regiment in 1914.

Family tradition (source Eric Hulbert) is that Sidney Inkerman Daniels Sr died throwing himself onto a grenade or shell. There was a "gong" -medallion or plaque given to next of kin (note: this is a plaque made of metal from cannon about 6" across given to next of kin of all military personnel missing or killed in action in WW1).

Did not live in Imber after 6 years of age. Raised by her aunt and Uncle Sidney Smith in Sutton Veny. They spent much of their life in Devon where Tom was a huntsman to a number of fox and otter hound packs. Lived at Exton, Devon in 1939/1940. The war caused them to move to Chippenham. Florence married Thomas Frank ALLISON on 30 Aug 1916 in Sutton Veney, Wiltshire. Thomas was born on 2 Jul 1893 in Clapham, London. He died on 31 Jan 1956 in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

Worked in hunting until WW2. Had Master posts with Devon Otter Hounds and Devon Stag Hounds.

He was killed Oct 22/23 in A Lancaster Mk III, registration JB287 in a bombing raid over Germany. Operation was on Kassel. Took off at 18.00 from Wickenby, Lincs (between Lincoln and Market Rasen) and crashed over Bielefeld on Oct 22nd. (DF, TA).
