At the time of his death in 1935 he was described as'the oldest police pensioner in Great Britain' and the last survivor ofthe 'peelers' - the constabulary formed by Sir Robert Peel. Henry Crusemay have left school early, but he reached the rank of Inspector.
Like many a Plainsman before him, he had a large family. At the time ofhis death, two weeks before his ninety-fifth birthday, he had 60descendants. These included six children, 22 grandchildren, 27great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild."
